![]() Best drive available appears to be 512 GB Transcend MTS400 which is getting harder to find and is very expensive for its capacity.ĮDIT: Transcend has since released MTS420S (no DRAM) and MTS430S available at much lower prices than the MTS400. More important issue than speed is the fact that the slot is only 42mm length and no top-tier drive manufacturer released any SATA drives that size. Upgrade T440p with an m.2 SSD I would like to install a m.2 ssd to give me a second boot option. You could maybe make this a valid complaint for the T460p though which apparently still used SATA in it's M.2 slot. There were some Broadwell laptops with NVMe I believe but it didn't become widespread until Skylake. M.2 SATA III is definitely a step up from the previous generation's mSATA at SATA II speed (vs. ![]() I don't think there were any NVMe laptops when T440p was released. Not sure why you'd think it would be faster. ![]() Is it better to get a regular 2.5 SSD for this machine or will the M.2 provide faster throughput? Theoretically, the M.2 should be faster, but as I said, I can't find any details.
